West Nile Virus
West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito borne virus that has been in the United States since at least 1999. Recently, a bird found in the City of Laguna Woods tested positive for the virus. Only 20% of those infected develop fluelike symptoms and only 1% become seriously ill. However, senior citizens and those with impaired immune symptoms have an increased risk. Residents should take precautions to protect themselves from the virus.
