The City of Laguna Woods has adopted a regulatory process that will allow medical marijuana dispensaries (collectives and non-profits) to operate in certain areas of the city under certain conditions.
Dispensaries may operate in the community commercial (cc) and professional office administration (pa) zones if they are 1,000 feet away from any school, daycare center or other youth related facility. There are certain facility requirements, including security cameras and separate ventilation systems; and operators must apply for a permit and undergo a background check.
Permits will be site and operator specific and not transferable. Applicants must provide a release from the property owner agreeing to the use of the property for a medical marijuana dispensary, and there is no requirement for any property owner to lease his/her property for this purpose. Although legal in California, medical marijuana dispensaries are prohibited by federal law and applicants should be aware that there is no implied exemption from federal law prosecution in the City’s ordinance.
THE $1,600 APPLICATION FEE FOR THIS PERMIT IS BASED ON APPLICATION SCREENING/PROCESSING, AS WELL AS ON-GOING MONITORING COSTS. IF YOUR APPLICATION IS REJECTED DURING THE SCREENING PROCESS, YOU WILL RECEIVE A REFUND OF $720.
