Current News
. City Considers Ban on Polystyrene Foam Single-Use Food Serviceware

At its March 21, 2012 meeting, the City Council asked staff to prepare an ordinance that would ban the use of polystyrene foam (EPS and XPS) single-use food service ware in restaurants and food facilities in the City.

Click her for a copy of the draft ordinance.    At its April 25, 2012 meeting, the City's Community Services Committee requested that staff prepare a second version of the proposed ordinance that would expand the ban to include clubhouses, community centers, houses of worship and other buildings used for public gatherings where food is provided. A version encompassing that change will be available as a part of the City Council agenda packet.  

 


Citizens Helping Citizens in Crisis
Trauma Intervention Programs, Inc (TIP) is looking for people willing to help provide emotional support to fellow residents during times of crisis. TIP's training academy will start on August 16th.Click her for information about TIP, the training academy and how to sign up.

Planning and Development Issues
. Fire Zone Map
The state and the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) have released a map identifying fire severity zones - very high, high and moderate - in the City of Laguna Woods.  The City has adopted materials and methods regulations for new and remodeled construction in these zones.

Local Environmental Quality Procedures
Laguna Woods has adopted Local CEQA Procedures that include consideration of greenhouse gas emissions. Click  here  for a copy of our current local procedures.

Green Home Certification Program
The purpose of the Laguna Woods Green Homes program is to encourage and reward residents who incorporate sustainable practices in their homes, thereby improving the environmental health of the City. There are three levels of certification.

Citizen Involvement in the Code Enforcement Process
Neighborhoods are the environment in which we live. Blight and nuisances can devalue, detract and degrade the quality of the city and your neighborhood. The City depends on the eyes and ears of its residents to assure that it rules and regulations are followed. Be a part of that process by reporting City Code violations to city hall.

Medical Marijuana Dispensaries
REGULATORY PERMIT APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE
The City of Laguna Woods has adopted a regulatory process that will allow medical marijuana dispensaries (non-profits) to operate in certain areas of the city under certain conditions. Application packets are available at City Hall and on the website.

Urban Activity Center Specific Plan
. UAC Application Update #3 - Revised Proposal Submitted
The Golden Rain Foundation has re-submitted its project propsal and has provided a traffic study. See story for a copy of the revised project proposal and traffic study.

UAC Application Update #2: City Comments on Applicant Proposal

UAC Application Update #1: Chart of Components Not Yet Submitted

The City is in the process of reviewing the UAC application submitted by the Golden Rain Foundation. The contents of the plan and required planning documents are governed by state law and the City’s General Plan (land use element) and Municipal Code (zoning regulations). The City has deemed the UAC application to be incomplete at this point – some of the required components have not yet been submitted. Click here for a chart that identifies the required components and whether or not they have been submitted (addressed). The chart does not provide an evaluation about whether or not the components have deficiencies, just whether or not they have been included in the initial submittal.

Urban Activity Center Background
The Laguna Woods General Plan designates approximately 69 acres in the city owned by Laguna Woods Village as Urban Activity Center (UAC). This designation requires the City to approve a specific plan before any new development can occur on the property.
